Ground Hog Day or Happy Death Day
Let’s face it, it is the same thing.
Facebook’s 2018 Focus is spinning the dial on the algorithm again.
Ever feel like you are living the same scenario over and over again? In particular the ever-changing algorithm of Facebook? Zuckerberg says Facebook wants to change the balance. “Video and other public content have exploded on Facebook in the past couple of years. Since there’s more public content than posts from your friends and family, the balance of what’s in the News Feed has shifted away from the most important thing Facebook can do — help us connect with each other”.
However, these aren’t the first changes to be made to the Facebook algorithm and they won’t be the last. Almost five years ago, Facebook announced “Instant Articles” and how they would give priority in the news feed, then it went from there to video and from pre-recorded video to live video and the from live video to Facebook groups.
Regardless of the change, businesses – if not already, can expect to see a decrease in organic reach. Thus, giving way to more of your friends and family, selfies, food posts and annoying animal posts.
So, what can you do as a business?
Be relevant, consistent and timely
This is not the time to pull back and stop posting, or posting sporadically. You want to keep the momentum. Remember, everything points to more changes. Facebook will change their algorithm again and you don’t want to be that one that decided to quit. After all, pages are Facebook’s source of revenue. They lose us, they lose their revenue. Which brings me to my next point.
Put your money where your ads are.
Yup you’ve enjoyed the free ride long enough. You never hesitated to pay for traditional ads in the past so why would you not do it now. And, a little secret, it is much more economical to advertise on Facebook than traditional media. It is more important than ever to understand how to target your audience when advertising. Create a Facebook Group
Now, this might not work for every business but, try creating a Facebook group. If Zuckerberg says they are going to focus on groups, then give it a try. In my opinion, this should be done in conjunction with your page and advertising.
Do more Facebook Live video
Videos are more than ever the way to go. “Live videos often lead to discussion among viewers on Facebook – in fact, live videos on average get six times as many interactions as regular videos. Focus on delivering valuable content or do an interview with someone else in your industry. Just remember to bring value or solve a problem for your viewer.
Use messenger bots
Never heard of these before?
A bot is a Facebook Page that sends out messages and responds to users automatically. You’ll need an existing Facebook Page to set up its bot functionality. … Use ManyChat to create your bot in 2 minutes without coding.
All you need is an existing Facebook page to set up its bot functionality. My pal Steven delivers a wicked course on this in his Messanger Masterclass program. It’s easy to follow and will give you real-time results.
DON’T do this
The one thing you don’t want to do is stop posting and engaging. You need to look at what you’re posting and figure new ways to engage your audience through comments, likes, and shares. People are more likely to see your posts if you can engage them enough that they will want to interact with you. Think about it, they make a comment, a notification is made to their friends, they share the posts, their friends see it.
Pages making posts that people generally don’t react to or comment on could see the biggest decreases in distribution. Pages whose posts prompt conversations between friends will see less of an effect. ~ Mark Zuckerberg
